NCRA TIFR VSRP 2026

The Visiting Students’ Research Programme (VSRP-2026) will provide selected participants with the opportunity to undertake a full-time research project in astronomy and astrophysics, which may be theoretical, observational, or computational, depending on the nature of available projects and the academic interests of the student. Students will work closely with experienced researchers and faculty members at NCRA, gaining hands-on exposure to cutting-edge scientific methodologies, data analysis techniques, and modern research tools used in radio astronomy and related fields.

At the conclusion of VSRP-2026, each participant will be required to present a seminar based on their research work, outlining their objectives, methodology, findings, and conclusions. This will be followed by a formal interview conducted by a panel of faculty members and senior researchers from NCRA. The evaluation will be based on the student’s overall performance during the programme, including research contribution, analytical skills, presentation ability, and understanding of the subject.

Eligible candidates must be currently pursuing their M.Sc. Submissions sent via postal mail, email, or any other offline mode will not be accepted under any circumstances. The deadline for submitting the online application is Monday, February 16, 2026. In addition, applicants must ensure that their referees submit the required referee form by Monday, February 23, 2026. It is the applicant’s responsibility to inform and remind their referees to complete this process within the stipulated timeline, as incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified of their selection by email by mid-March 2026. Applicants are advised to regularly check their registered email, including the spam folder, for updates regarding their application status. Students selected for VSRP-2026 will receive a monthly stipend of ₹9,000 for the duration of the programme. In addition, they will be reimbursed travel expenses equivalent to 1.33 times the second-class railway fare (sleeper class) for journeys exceeding 500 km, both for travel to Pune at the start of the programme and return travel to their place of residence or institution at the end of the programme.
